Beginner level
If you are new to clay or have dabbled here and there this beginning handbuilding course is for you! This is an introductory ceramics class that will provide you with or build upon basic handbuilding techniques including pinching, coiling, slab building, applying textures, texturing clay, sgraffito, hump molds, use of equipment such as a slab roller and extruder, and glazing. Your instructor, Damaris Swass, will be providing demos with which you are encouraged to creatively explore during class either through the project suggestions provided or a project of your own conception. Keeping a sketchbook is encouraged, but not required. After 8-weeks with Damaris you will leave with a solid foundation of the full life cycle and process.
All students will have their own shelf in the studio to store their clay, tools, and projects. The course fee includes unlimited studio clay. (Additional clays can be purchased at the studio if desired.)
Students should bring their own tools or purchase them from the studio (for $15 on the first day of class), and should bring their own aprons and towels if desired.
We have the option to join free open studio time Friday evenings from 7-10pm throughout the duration of class.
The student firing fee is $0.07 per cubic inch which covers the cost of bisque and glaze firing
All work must be completed or ready to go into the final glaze kiln by the end of the last class.
Students will have the option to book additional studio time ($20 per hour) if they would like more than the allotted class time.
*We do not provide makeup classes unless discussed prior to the start of class - more info and our refund policy are here if needed.
*Courses are subject to cancellation if not enough students sign up. In this case, students will be refunded the course fee.
*Centerpoint classes are for students ages 18 and older.
